Introducing the Head Speed MP Auxetic 2 (2024) tennis racquet

Here is the 2024 version of the Head Speed MP, undoubtedly the most versatile racquet from Head and one of the most versatile racquets of all brands.

The essential difference with the previous model concerns the Auxetic technology which is now integrated into the handle of the racquet, in addition to the throat.

Auxetic technology corresponds to a material which aims to improve sensations and comfort and with this version I found the shots even more softened than with the previous version.

The racquet still has Graphene 360+ technology, which provides power, flexibility, stability and good vibration absorption.

The technical characteristics do not change and are still as versatile, whether it is the weight (300 g), the head size (645 cm²/100 in²), the string pattern (16x19), the 23 mm profile and the balance of 32 cm unstrung.

Only the rigidity is a little low, this is interesting for comfort and I find that this has little impact on the power which is very correct.

The power of the Head Speed MP Auxetic 2 (2024)

I have always found the Head Speed MP to be very versatile in all areas, particularly in terms of power.

With this 2024 version, I had a feeling of power identical to what I had with the previous versions.

The stiffness of 60 is low, however, this does not reduce the power too much, which is intermediate and may suit many players.

Personally, I had a perfect power level for my forehand, a medium/a little high power shot in my game.

On the backhand side, a powerful shot for me, I had good sensations, with a fairly clear lack of control on my powerful and low-spin shots.

On the serve, my weak point, I had a satisfactory level of power, which shows that the racquet is not very hard to play.

Very powerful players who don't use much topspin will lack control and players who lack a lot of power may find that the Speed MP is not powerful enough but for a large number of players of average power, the racquet will give the right level of power in my opinion.

This power level can of course be modulated with the tension and type of string; by tending to around 22 kg or less, the power can be increased quite significantly and with a tension of 24 kg and more, the control can be increased, even more significantly with monofilament.

For a little less power and a little more weight, see :

  • the Head Speed Pro with its 18x20 string which is not very hard to play,
  • the Head Prestige MP L,
  • the Head Radical MP.
  • the Head Gravity MP.

The Head Boom MP will be pretty close for power, a little lighter and with better access to topspin.

The Head Extreme MP will be more powerful and with better access to topspin.

Access to spins with the Head Speed MP Auxetic 2 (2024)

I had good sensations on the backhand, with decent control, even if I would surely be more free with a less powerful racquet.

Regarding the topspin, I had very good sensations and I found access to the topspin completely satisfactory for my game, especially for my forehand that uses more topspin than my backhand.

The Speed MP, for the topspin, as in other areas, is versatile and fairly neutral, with perfectly correct access, without being extreme.

Players who want even more access to topspin can turn to the Head Extreme MP or the Head Boom MP.

Manoeuverability of the Head Speed MP Auxetic 2 (2024) racquet

As in other areas, it is very versatile for balance, with a racquet that is not particularly light or head heavy, the weight is well distributed between the head and handle.

With its balance point located at 32 cm and its average swingweight close to 330, as with the previous versions of the Head Speed MP Graphene and Auxetic 1, I found the handling of the Head Speed MP 2024 to be completely neutral.

Most racquets that weigh 300g have a balance point of 32cm.

We feel a little weight at the head, enough to have decent stability and not too much to harm maneuverability and speed of movement.

For more maneuverability with slightly less weight, see the Head Boom MP, slightly more powerful and with slightly more topspin access.

Playing comfort with the Head Speed MP Auxetic 2 (2024) racquet

I loved the gaming sensations with this 2024 version of the Head Speed MP.

I found the racquet particularly comfortable, with great vibration absorption and a very good feeling of forgiveness when hitting the ball off center.

I don't know if this is linked to the Auxetic version 2 technology, but I had the fairly clear sensation of having more comfort and softness on impact than with the previous version which I tested not long ago.

We have the feeling that the shots are softened, some players may perhaps feel a little disconnected from the ball but that will depend on each individual.

In any case, the feeling of comfort is very present, even more than on the previous version and I had a lot of fun playing with this racquet.

Who is it for ?

I recommend the Head Speed MP Auxetic 2 from 2024 to players:

  • intermediate or advanced level,
  • who are looking for a racquet with an accessible weight of 300 g (for similar sensations and a lighter weight, see the Head Speed Team (285 g) and the Head Speed MP L (275 g)),
  • who have average power and are looking for a racquet of intermediate power (to be avoided for very powerful players who have little topspin and for players with very little power),
  • who want good access to topspin, without being extreme,
  • neutral handling,
  • an excellent level of comfort, better than the previous model,
  • who are looking for a very versatile tennis racquet.
