Introducing the Head Boom MP Auxetic 2 (2024) tennis racquet

The Head Boom line was released in 2022, it is the 2nd generation of this line, composed of rather powerful racquets, comfortable and with good access to topspin.

The Boom MP 2024 will exist with 2 different looks, like the Head Boom MP L, to see this will be the case for other models.

Technologies

Graphene Inside (Formerly Graphene 360+)

Use of graphene material, which reinforces the frame, gives stability, dampens vibrations, without making the racket too heavy.

Morph Beam

The racket profile combines square and elliptical sections to have a good compromise of control and power and stability.

This is similar to Tecnifibre’s RS Section and Babolat’s Control Frame technologies.

Plain Pattern

The uniform string pattern is designed to provide consistent ball trajectory on every shot for reliable and forgiving play.

Directional Drilling

Directional drilling technology optimizes the sweet spot for more power, delivering impeccable feel at impact.

Power Grommets

The enlarged Power eyelets maximize the movement of the string for a better trampoline effect and thus improved power as well as very good access to spin.

Auxetic 2.0

This is the new feature of this 2024 version; the Auxetic technology present on the previous version at the heart level is now also integrated into the handle of the racket

This technology aims to improve gaming sensations and comfort.

The power of the Head Boom MP Auxetic 2 (2024)

The Head Boom MP 2024 is a rather powerful and easy to play racquet, like the first version of 2022, it will be accessible to many players.

I found the power level similar to the first version.

The power of the Head Boom MP 2024 is enhanced by these features:

  • the 645 cm² head size with an enlarged racquet head shape,
  • the relatively thick profile of 23mm / 24mm / 23mm,
  • the fairly open 16x19 string pattern and the shape of the grommets which helps the movement of the strings,
  • the maneuverability and lightness of the racquet, which easily allows to have good swing speed.

The racquet gives a feeling of liveliness and we feel that we do not have to make too much effort to produce speed and have ball length.

It will be interesting for:

  • low-power or medium-power players,
  • powerful players who in this case use topsin to have security.

On the forehand side, a shot on which my power is variable and where I can force my shots sometimes, I had a great level of power, I had fun finding ball speed easily, without making too much efforts.

I had good sensations on the forehand because I use topspin and this gives me security even when hitting hard.

Really powerful players with low topspin may lack control with this racquet.

On the backhand side, my best shot, I had very good sensations on my medium intensity shots.

On my powerful backhands, I expected to make more mistakes and ultimately the control was quite correct, although with a slight lack of confidence to let my shots go at full power with little topspin.

On the serve, a shot on which I lack power, I had sensations that were close to what I could expect best for this shot, which shows that the racquet is really not hard to play.

For power, I was also helped by the medium/slightly low tension of the string: 22 kg with a Head Sonic Pro 1.25 mm string, but even with a slightly tighter string, I would have kept a correct level of power.

More powerful racquets

  • Solinco Blackout 100
  • Prince Beast 100
  • Tecnifibre TFlash

Similar racquets

  • Head Extreme MP
  • Wilson Burn, Ultra

Less powerful racquets

  • Yonex VCore 100, Percept 100
  • Babolat Pure Aero, Pure Strike
  • Head Speed MP (un peu moins puissante)
  • Head Prestige, Gravity, Radical
  • Tecnifibre TFight
  • Wilson Pro Staff, Blade, Shift, Clash

Spins with the Head Boom MP Auxetic 2 (2024)

I had a very good feeling on my slice backhand and even though I would have more of a feeling of control with a less powerful racquet, it was very good.

Access to topspin is a real strong point of this racquet, favored by:

  • the versatile head size of 645 cm² / 100 in²,
  • the shape of the rounded frame at the top,
  • the versatile 16x19 string pattern with enough space between the strings,
  • the grommets which have a shape allowing the strings to move easily,
  • the maneuverability of the racquet.

The access to the topspin is really very good and makes the Boom MP a very interesting racquet for players who want easy access to topspin.

Note that there is also the Head Extreme MP which also gives very good access to topspin, but it is a little heavier and has a more classic balance which makes it a little less maneuverable.

The Extreme MP has a classic manoeuverability but the Boom MP is particularly easy to swing.

Manoeuverability of the Head Boom MP Auxetic 2 (2024) racquet

Precisely, I found the maneuverability excellent, thanks to the balance located at 31.5 cm and the swingweight of 317, which gives a feeling of lightness at the head.

It is rare to find racquets so easy to swing; at the time of writing this article,

  • there are only 8 other racqutes between 295 and 300 g with a balance of less than 32 cm,
  • With a weight of 295g, there is only the Wilson Clash, which is balanced at 31cm.
  • With a weight of 295 g and a balance of 31.5 cm, there is ultimately only the Boom MP.

Note that it is easy to customize the racquet if necessary; personally, I decided to add 4g around the hitting zone, to slightly increase the weight and the swingwegith of the racquet.

This allowed me to get closer to the sensations I usually have, to have more weight to put in the ball, more power and a little more stability.

I preferred the sensations with this customization, but it will depend on each player, in any case it is easy to customize the racquet to make it heavier at the top and return to a more classic balance.

The Head Boom MP will be very interesting in terms of maneuverability for players:

  • who play a lot at the net,
  • with swings that lack amplitude or looseness,
  • who simply want to be able to move their racquet very easily, without feeling a lot of weight at the top of the racquet.

Playing comfort with the Head Boom MP Auxetic 2 (2024) racquet

I found the Head Boom MP super comfortable and nice to play, I had a lot of fun playing with this racquet.

Difficult to say if this version gives better sensations than the 2022 version.

In any case, there is excellent vibration damping and the sensations are nice at impact.

It is a racquet that can be interesting for players who have sensitive arms and who prioritize comfort.

Thanks to its 645 cm² head size, slightly rounded at the top, the racquet also has very good tolerance ; you don't lose much power, comfort and precision when you off-center the ball.

Who is it for ?

I would recommend the Head Boom MP 2024 to players:

  • with an intermediate or advanced level, even good beginners,
  • who are looking for a powerful and easy to play racquet,
  • who do not want to make too much physical efforts to have a decent power,
  • with a low power game style/with average power,
  • or high power, but in that case with topspin, to have security,
  • with medium or large swings
  • medium or high swing speed,
  • who are looking for very good access to topspin,
  • a racquet very easy to swing, headlight,
  • with a very good level of comfort and very good tolerance,
  • who already appreciate version 1 of the Boom MP because this version gives similar sensations.
